Social Media Updates - November

In this blog, I’m wrapping up the latest developments in the social media world to get you covered with the latest news and trends in social media marketing! Here I list the top updates and developments from around the social and digital marketing that happened during the month of November.

  1. Instagram Adds Keyword Search in Addition to Profiles and Tags.

You'll now be able to tap on specific search terms and Instagram will show you all the posts that include those exact words.

  2. Snapchat provides new options for app promotions.

Snap facilitates more connection to its engaged, young audience while linking into other apps.

  3. YouTube Will Start Inserting Ads into Non-Monetized Content.

In other words, if you chose not to put ads in your YouTube video, YouTube's probably going to do it anyway - but you won't gain any subsequent revenue from those ads unless you sign up to the Youtube partner program.

  4. Instagram Expands 'Guides' Content Display Option to All Users.

Users will now be able to add a new tab to their profiles, which links through to the Guides option. The Guides tab will highlight collections of posts under dedicated topic tiles - which has a Pinterest-like feel to it.

  5. Twitter launched the story-like feature, called "fleets" for all users.

Now, any mobile Twitter user, regardless of where they live or what platform they’re on, will have access to the disappearing messaging feature, which will sit right at the top of the timeline in a row of Stories-like bubbles.

  6. TikTok made an update on parental control tools, to better protect young users.

TikTok added a Family Pairing feature to help parents stay on top of their kids' usage. Now they can manage how their kids interact, and who they interact with, within the app.
